President Yoweri Museveni has praised the late Emmanuel Cardinal Nsubuga for his role in the liberation of Uganda during the 1986 guerilla war that led the National Resistance Army or Movement (NRA/M) into power.

Speaking to the Trekkers at Mubende on Wednesday, Museveni said that the late Cardinal Nsubuga offered his banana plantation to the guerilla war warriors to facilitate in the feeding of the soldiers.

Cardinal Nsubuga that first Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kampala from 1966 to 1990 the time of his death was an industrious leader besides being a religious leader and a human rights advocate he was a farmer with acres of banana plantations in Kirangira Singo in Bukuya and herds of exotic cows in Kyankwazi ranch which were all eaten during the 1980/86 bush war.

Museveni further informed the Trekkers and “Bazukulu” (grandchildren) that they used methods of acquiring food either by taking advantage of abandoned gardens or pay off those with food.

Today marks the 5th day of the Afrika Kwetu Trek that started in Wakiso district at Garamba and is to end at Kibaale by tomorrow.
