President Yoweri Museveni has made an alarm for the advancement and promotion of social economic transformation in a bid to improve the livelihoods of women in country.

According to the President, many homesteads in the country are still working for the stomach and rather not advancing on a commercial level which has set back many homesteads.

The president made the remarks while speaking at the national celebrations to commemorate the International Women’s day held at Statehouse Entebbe in observance of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

He alluded to the social economic transformation drive in Europe that started about 200 years ago via the industrial revolution which enabled them to change and develop to the societies they are today.

He called on leaders across the country to guide youthful population that remains unemployed to become more productive and venture in income generating activities that will keep them productive and benefit the country in the long run.

Museveni said that the NRM government worked hard overtime to promote affirmative action that has created quotas for women’s political leadership in the country as well as opportunities for women to lead in high positions.

The event has been commemorated on the theme ‘Choose to Challenge that emphasizes the importance of women having an equal choice.
