The Bishop of Kasana Luweero Catholic diocese Rt. Rev. Paul Ssemogerere has asked government to release all people arrested during the just concluded general elections but still incarcerated.

Leading the inaugural mass for the celebrations of the Kasana Luweero diocesan Silver Jubilee on March 7, 2021, Bishop Kaggwa said that its government’s obligation to ensure that Ugandans are protected and empowered instead of being tortured.

Last week, through the Minister for Internal Affairs General Jeje Odongo, government tabled before parliament a list of names of 177 missing Ugandans who are said to be in detention following their arrest during and after the January elections.

However, Bishop Ssemwogere hailed Ugandans for having participated in the just concluded elections but noting with concerns the kind of violence emerged in the exercise not to happen next time.

Before that, he extended condolences to the Christians who lost their believed ones due to Covid-19 and those lost jobs as well as the many children reported becoming mothers at tender ages in this pandemic period as a result of over stay at home.

He cited some of the personalities who have died among others include; Rt. Rev. Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa, MTK manager FX. Kitaka and former Agriculture Minister Dr. Wilberforce Kisamba Mugerwa, who were instrumental members for the church and the country,

Bishop Ssemwogerere cautioned the public to avoid becoming familiar to Covi-19 pandemic but to continue following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Meanwhile, Bishop Ssemogerere reminded the congregation of the Lenten period that has reached the 3rd week for every Christian to repent, have hope, love and fast, desist from Witchcraft, adultery, corruption and irresponsible living which are big problems in Uganda.

The launched Silver Jubilee celebrations at Kasana Luweero Cathedral will be marked in March 2022.

Kasana Luweero diocese was elevated in 1997 curved from Kampala Archdiocese, and now Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga was the first bishop of Kasana Luweero until 2006 when he was appointed Archbishop and later in 2008 Msgr. Paul Ssemogerere then the Priest of Christ the King Kampala was appointed Bishop of Kasana Luweero diocese.
