President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has challenged the 11th Parliament to focus on driving Uganda to the income status to spar national development.

In his inaugural address shortly after the Speakership elections at Kololo Ceremonial grounds where Jacob Oulanyah the Omoro Country Member of Parliament and the Bukedea District Woman MP Anita Annet Among were elected Speaker and deputy speaker respectively, Museveni said Ugandans should be transformed from substance to social-economic transformation in this 2021/26 term.

He says Parliament must prioritize proper budgeting to help change their livelihood and income, citing ghetto youth who need capital to engage themselves in productive activities.

In addition he said Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) has not done enough to improve family income in the last 8 years since its inception in 2013 where it has only changed life of 800,000 families yet there are over 10 million families that must be targeted in this political term and it’s the work of parliament together with the executive to achieve this target.

Museveni says for MPs to succeed in their work there must be tolerance, even if one has been on the bad side either in political line or line of duty.

On the issue of corruption, Museveni reiterated his point of fighting the vice giving an example of Uganda Airlines officials whom he says had started messing up the body with all new inputs, he was forced to let them relinquish their duties to save the country.
