Mulago National Referral Hospital has decried the budget cut in the coming financial year 2021/2022 saying it will affect some of the operations of the facility.

Mulago is to suffer a budget cut of approximately 1bnshs from 60.8bnshs of the ending financial year 2020/2021 to now 59.99bn to be received in the coming financial year 2021/2022.

Appearing before the parliamentary Health committee, the Executive Director Mulago hospital Byarugaba Baterena said that some of the critical items left unfunded include, Specialized Medicine for patients, Food and meals for patients, electricity bills due to high voltage operational machines, construction of staff houses and others.

Byaruhanga also revealed to the committee that Mulago has been severely hit by Covid-19 pandemic and it needs special consideration in the next financial year.

He also noted that Mulago is now recording increasing numbers in incoming patients which calls for more resources in operational costs.
