The Leader of Opposition Matthias Mpuuga has been engaged in a bitter exchange with the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja on the floor of parliament on Wednesday afternoon.

This arose after LoP Mpuuga labeled the Prime Minister Nabbanja unserious as she attempted to present a report on the recent brutal arrest of 11 opposition women MPs at Parliament on 27th April 2023 as they tried to deliver a petition to the Ministry of Internal Affairs protesting the brutal arrest of women MPs as they celebrate the women’s day in their districts.

Mpuuga further stated that PM Nabbanja couldn’t present the report when she once said that she knows the whereabouts of the National Unity Platform (NUP) political prisoner Kibalama whom she failed to produce for the last three years.

It’s from this that Nabbanja arose on the floor of parliament protesting and demanding an apology from Mpuuga for having called her unserious which was later offered after a long exchange of words that later led the speaker of parliament Anita Among to intervene.

Prior to and after the 2021 general elections, several youthful NUP supporters were arrested on various allegations. Some are still in detention to date while some of the released have come back with hollowing tales of torture whilst in detention.
