The outgoing Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga has advised his successor Joel Ssenyonyi, the Nakawa West MP, to be prepared for traitors within the opposition ranks in parliament.

He revealed this as he handed over office to Ssenyonyi on Wednesday in the presence of the shadow cabinet members.

Mpuuga who is also MP for Nyendo-Mukungwe Division in Masaka City, pledged support to Ssenyonyi and also cautioned him to always endeavor to strike a balance amongst all opposition parties in his deliberations.

Meanwhile, Ssenyonyi has vowed to continue with the fight for human rights and also make sure that the existing matter in Parliament on the detained political prisoners is attended to by the regime.

He also promised to work with everyone irrespective of their political party.

This week, the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among officially introduced Ssenyonyi as the new Leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LoP), and at the same time bid farewell to the former office bearer Mpuuga.

This followed an official communication made last year in December by the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kaygulanyi, alias Bobi Wine about the change in the guard, with Ssenyonyi taking over from Mpuuga, who has served two and half years in the same docket.
