A section of Members of Parliament have called for concerted effort both from the government and drivers to address the problem of road accidents.

This follows fatal accidents along Fort portal-Kampala highway that involved the Lin bus and long Mbale-Tirinyi road that involved two drone taxis and a Raum car which claimed 28 lives.

Now in the press conference at parliament on Thursday, a section of MPs led by Abed Bwanika of the Kimanya-Kabonera Constituency, said that the government needs to invest in quality assurance of motor spares among others tires on the market through Uganda National Bureau of Standards-UNBS and also inspection of all vehicles on the road.

He also expressed urgency to improve on the roads, especially the dark spots.

Regarding drivers, MPs called on the Ministry of Works and Transport to organize refresher courses for all public transport drivers and equip them with all necessary skills and knowledge of driving and road sign interpretation.
