Members of Parliament are divided over the proposal by the Nakaseke South MP, Paulson Luttamaguzi Semakula of each MP contributing two million shillings off their monthly salary to towards the families of the jailed political prisoners.

Luttamaguzi said he is planning to present this proposal to the National Unity Platform-NUP party President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and the leadership of the Opposition in Parliament.

He says instead of negotiating with Government as proposed by the Kimaanya-Kabonera MP, Dr. Abed Bwanika, the opposition should find means of supporting the families of those jailed on political grounds.

Some of the known jailed political prisoners include; Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya and Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana among others that have been incarcerated since the 2021 general elections.

However, the Busujju County MP David Lukyamuzi Kalwanga has opposed the proposals saying individual MPs should contribute willingly being that they also have other obligations in their constituencies.
