A section of opposition Members of Parliament have condemned and refused to support the motion passed by parliament this morning to buy a house for the family of the late former Governor Bank of Uganda Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile in Kampala.

This Thursday morning, parliament proposed and passed a motion for government to cater for the entire welfare including constructing for his family a home after his wife Rebecca Mutebile whispering to the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Anita Among during a vigil at their residence that they have no where to stay.

Late Mutebile has been staying in a government house at Kololo known as Governor House.

Now speaking to some MPs at Parliament, they say that it’s shameful and embarrassing for the person of late Mutebile who has served for 20 years as Governor BoU not to have built a house of his own.

The Kalungu West MP, Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu calls it impunity for a government to buy a house for the family of the late Mutebire since the deceased has been living a luxurious life and even built a house in his village in Kabale where the wife and other family members can stay.

Bumali Mpindi, the MP for Persons with Disabilities says that the late Mutebire has several properties that his family can occupy including those abroad and a farm that is seating on about 100 acres having a house at Migadde along Bombo road in Wakiso district.

Mpindi further claims that he has information showing that Mutebire bought the Kololo house from the government, of which his family can freely occupy.

Denis Ssekabira, the Katikamu North says that he won’t support the motion of having the late Mutebire’s family built a house by the government once it is returned into parliament for discussion and approval adding that this is regarded as the Governor’s failure to prepare for the family.

The Governor for Bank of Uganda receives 50mshs as salary exclusive of allowances.
