Members of Parliament sitting on the physical infrastructure committee of parliament  have asked both the Ministry of Works and Transport and Uganda National Roads Authority – UNRA to start considering erecting road sign posts with trackers to reduce theft.

This was during the meeting between the committee Members and officials from UNRA and Minister of Works Gen Katumba Wamala on Tuesday.

This was after the Nakawa East MP Ronald Balimwezo raised the concern saying most of the road signs have been vandalized putting at risk most road users and by inserting chips in the road sign will help track the culprits thus saving taxpayers money used on replacing stolen posts.

Meanwhile the chairperson of the committee also IK-IK MP Robert Kasolo appealed to the minister to engage police authorities to reinforce security on the express highways to protect users from robbers and also those who steal the signposts.

In response, Minister Katumba promised the committee to engage the Inspector General of Police-IGP to agree on the solution of theft along Entebbe express highways.
