A section of Members of Parliament from Kampala Metropolitan area have issued an ultimatum of two weeks to the government to release funds to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) for both road and drainage maintenance.

These led by the Rubaga North MP, also shadow minister for Kampala Abubaker Kawalya include Nakawa East’s Ronald Balimwezo, Derrick Nyeko of Makindye East and Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West say that due to the poor drainage systems and roads, Kampala is now faced with floods thus affecting residents of Kampala.

They claim that they won’t look on when property gets destroyed and life lost in flood waters yet parliament appropriated funds for the roads and construction of drainage channels in this financial year 2023/24.

The MPs have also revealed that the government has not released any funds for the roads in the first quarter of the financial year leaving Kampala in dare potholes thus threatening to mobilize masses if funds are not released in the two weeks.

Since the rainfall started, bad news has been reported including a two-year-old boy who drowned in Najjera in a trench just outside his caretaker’s house.

Traffic is disrupted for hours as floods cut off major roads leading to the city whenever it rains.
