Officials from the Uganda Land Commission -ULC led by the Accounting Officer Daniel Mugurusi have been recommitted to an oath after failing to provide sufficient and satisfactory information to Parliament Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises-COSASE chaired by Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi.

The committee is currently interfacing with ULC on audit queries for the financial year 2020/2021 on unaccounted funds and non functioning of the land information system.

It was noted in the audit query that UCL spent 1.2bnshs on eight commissioners of the commission in the year under review but failed to provide a breakdown of the accountability.

This was also made worse when the committee decided to calculate the emoluments of the 8 commissioners and found out that there was an excess of 600m not accounted for.

Meanwhile, Commission’s Accounting Officer Mugurusi failed to explain why the Lands Information System which is used for land registration and surveying to avoid land wrangles is not in operation since 2020.
