The Democratic Party (DP) has requested school owners to accept items like food and services from parents who may not be having the money to pay school fees so that their children can resume school.

The DP Deputy Legal Advisor and Mityana South MP Richard Lumu while addressing journalists at party headquarters in Kampala noted with concern that the skyrocketing prices of commodities is affecting resumption of schools with many parents frustrated because they are unable to afford the school charges currently being asked by the schools.

This follows the low turn up of learners at most of the schools across the country in the first two days of returning for second term.

It is upon this that Lumu has advised the Government to temporarily reduce or suspend taxes on raw materials used in manufacturing basic items like soap and others so that prices for such commodities normalize.

Meanwhile, the DP through Lumu has condemned Parliament for taking long to table the controversial Coffee deal report for debate by MPs after Parliament’s Trade Committee that was tasked to investigate it reported that it had completed compiling it.
