Members of Parliament-MPs from Kasese sub-region are demanding for a postmortem report of at least 11 royal guards who died while in prisons after the November 2016 Rwenzururu Kingdom raid.

The alleged 11 deceased are part of more than 80 royal guards who were arrested and incarcerated at Kirinya Prison in Jinja since the group was arrested together with the Omusinga (King) Charles Wesley Mumbere in the raid.

Over 100 people including security personnel died during a joint raid by the army and Police on Omusinga Mumbere’s Buhikira royal palace and other kingdom sites across Kasese.

Speaking to journalists at parliament, the MP’s lead by Bukonzo West Legislature Atkins Katusabe, said that the Commissioner General of Prisons Johnson Byabashaijja should account for the lost lives to the people of Kasese and their relatives.

The MPs from Kasese are now demanding for either a speedy trial of both cases against their Omusinga Charles Wesley Omumbere and his guards or release them unconditionally.

Meanwhile, Frank Baine, the Uganda Prisons Service Spokesperson has attributed the death of the recent royal guard to natural death.
