Members of Parliament have asked the government to prioritize improvement on the road network to avert increased carnage on the roads.

The Woman MP for Tororo District Sarah Opendi says the government needs to commit more funds on road improvement that is working on potholes, black spots and widening highways as part of the measures to reduce road accidents.

Opendi further says railway transport would solve the problem of jamming of roads by the heavy trucks carrying goods which normally cause accidents on the roads due to the narrow roads.

This comes after The 11th Parliament lost one of their own the Serere County Member of Parliament  Patrick Okabe early this morning when his a Land Cruiser, registration number UBK 995F in which the legislator was travelling collided with a truck with Kenyan registration numbers, KCX 0710K along Mbale-Tirinyi road.

Okabe on spot and his wife Christine Okabe who was rushed to Mbale regional referral hospital in critical condition but later passed on.
