Parliament conducted by the Deputy Speakership Thomas Tayebwa has on Friday voted in favor of censoring the State Minister for Housing, Persis Namuganza.

The motion to censure Namuganza was moved by the Agago County Member of Parliament Amos Okot and seconded by those in support according to the Friday’s order paper.

According to the rules, after the motion parliament is given 72 hours to put it in writing to the president who has to make a decision within a period of 30 days.

Namuganza is being accused of misconduct and undermining the powers of Parliament when she used different social media platforms during the investigations on Nakawa-Naguru land saga give away and said parliament has no authority to blame her for giving away the land and even challenged the authenticity of the ad hoc committee in courts of law.

Namuganza further said that she was directed by President Museveni to give part of the land to investors which the ad-hoc committee didn’t accept after Namuganza failed to table the evidence to the effect.

The signatures needed to censure Numuganza were far above the required number; instead of 172 signatures a total of 196 were collected out of a total of 529 MPs.

Namuganza is now at the mercy of the appointing authority that is President Museveni.
