The case where the Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya is accused of threatening violence using Facebook has flopped again over the absence of the required witnesses.

Ssegirinya was more than ready today for trial before the Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Sienna Owomugisha but prosecution led by Ivan Kyazze informed court that he didn’t bother to call witnesses who  come from far places because he was not sure whether the accused Legislator would turn up in Court despite having been granted bail.

Ssegirinya was present in Court but his lawyer Medard Lubega Sseggona was also absent over health challenges.

Presiding Magistrate Owomugisha then adjourned the matter to 11th August 2023 giving the State a month to call its remaining witnesses.

Prosecution alleges that between August and September 2020 while in Kampala, Ssegirinya commonly known as Mr. Update made statements on his Facebook page “Ssegirinya Muhammad Fans Page” that incite the public to participate in violence against a section or group of Ugandans but the accused denies the charges.
