The Tororo district woman Member of Parliament -MP and also the mover of the motion against the government decision of awarding a Russian company Joint-Stock Global System, Sarah Opendi wants the contract be terminated.

Government last year entered into a 10 years contract with the said company to install monitoring chips in all vehicles and motorcycles as a means of curbing insecurity in the country.

In the said contract, owners of vehicles will have to incur costs of installation and those with old number plates have to re-apply and pay for new vehicle number plates which Opendi opposes.

Opendi, who had appeared before the parliamentary committee of Defense, said that by placing monitoring devices in personal car number plates will be an infringement on individual’s privacy thus requesting the committee to alter the process.

Opendi also urged the committee to investigate the authenticity of the contracted Russian company being that the Minister of Security Jim Muhwezi failed to provide evidential documents showing address or contracts of the company.

She further advised the committee to study the status of continuing working with the said Russian company especially now when Russia is facing international sanctions.

Last week Muhwezi asked the committee to give him more time to gather more evidence about the contracted company and report back.
