The Butambala County Member of Parliament Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi has opposed the approval of 3 trillion shillings supplementary budget that is currently before the parliamentary Budgets committee for scrutiny.

This Thursday, different government entities said to be beneficiaries of the Shs3 trillion that included Uganda Prison Services and Uganda Police Force appeared before the committee to justify the need of the supplementary.

According to police, they need Shs5.5bn for fuel and vehicle lubrication, Shs10bn for feeding officers in operation, Shs9.3bn to buy classified stores for the newly recruited officers.

Meanwhile the Prison Services has also asked a supplementary of Shs5bn to buy simple mattresses and blankets for the prisoners which Kivumbi opposed as the Minister for internal affairs Kahinda Ottafire explained the urgency of the resting materials for prisoners.

It’s from this that Kivumbi who also doubles as the Shadow Minister for Finance appealed to the government to always prioritize items of urgency while budgeting to avoid violating and calling for unnecessary supplementary during the course of a running budget.
