A total of 257 people died in road accidents that occurred in the month ending October 2022 according to the Traffic Police Report.

 

The report compiled from 1st to 29th of October 2022 shows a total of 1,378 road crashes occurred within the said period and among these, 227 were fatal, 705 were serious while 446 were minor.

 

Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic Police Spokesperson says that of the over 1200 victims who got involved in these crashes, 257 of them died while 975 sustained injuries.

 

She however attributes the accidents to over speeding, reckless driving and disobedience to traffic rules where motorcycles, public service vehicles and trucks were most involved in these crashes.

 

Nampiima has however cautioned the drivers to always be mindful whenever they are on the road especially when the festive season is in the corner where accidents are always on increase.

 

Meanwhile, more than 33000 drivers were arrested for violating traffic and road safety rules and they were issued with Express Penalty Scheme -EPS fines during the operations which were conducted in the last 29 days and over 6300 drivers were fined for driving carelessly.
