The Ministry of Health believes that resources on mental health should be channeled to community sensitization and awareness instead of establishing more facilities for treating the complication.

This comes after in August this year, Mental Health practitioners called upon the government to increase the budget allocated to tackling mental health to help support the mental health cause.

The State Minister for Health In charge of General Duties Hanifah Kawooya while addressing the press ahead of the national commemoration of the World Mental Health Day in the country noted that the focus should be prevention than treatment.

She adds that issues of mental disorders are preventable since many Ugandans are dealing with common mental health problems like anxiety, alcohol and depression.

Christopher Komakech, the Spokesperson for the Parliamentary Forum on Mental Health says that the recently passed Psychotropic and Narcotic Bill once signed by the president will enable the government to control mental health that is mostly caused by alcoholism.
