The Minister for Presidency Esther Mbayo has appealed to health workers to implement their ethical code of conduct and stop disclosing the health status of their patients.

She revealed this at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala ahead of the commemoration of the Candle Light Day that will be marked on May 27th under the theme; “HIV Stigma Free at Workplaces in Uganda, Journey Towards Ending AIDS by 2030” noting that they have received complaints from HIV patients complaining about health workers disclosing their status to other people without their consent.

She notes that the candle light memorial is a time for the country to remember the many lives lost to AIDS.

It is estimated that by 2019 the HIV prevalence among adults aged (15-49) in Uganda was 5.6% and the prevalence rate was higher among female by 6.9% as compared to the males.

60 people in Uganda die every day due to HIV.
