The Minister for Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero has launched and flagged off the distribution of cold chain equipments for vaccines that are to be installed across the country. 

 

The cold chain equipments valued at 8.3 million USD are 1,311 solar powered refrigerators, 129 hydro refrigerators, 130 vaccine carriers and 5 walk-in refrigerators.

 

Speaking at the launch from Kololo Independence Ground, Minister Aceng said that the cold chain equipments will be distributed accordingly, with the 5 walk-in refrigerators will be given out to the five regional hospitals of Arua, Mbale, Mbarara, Fort Portal and Lira and other health facilities will receive other cold chain equipments.

 

Dr. Aceng further says that now Uganda has 98% cold chain services of safely storing all the types of vaccines for 14 diseases that are vaccinated including Covid-19, Yellow Fever, Polio and Hepatitis B among others across the country at all levels right from the region to the villages.

 

Munir Safieldin, the Country Representative for the United Nations Children’s Fund – UNICEF says that these equipments have specialized security features that protects them from being misused and their procurements have been majorly facilitated by the international organizations.
