Government should prioritize improvement of the working conditions of the frontline Health workers in Covid19 management.

Aggrey Sanya, the General Secretary of Uganda Medical Workers Union (UMWU) in Ntinda said health workers have been in danger since the genesis of the pandemic and this must stop if Covid19 and its dangers be eliminated in Uganda.

Sanya adds that currently, heath workers with covid19 have no reserved space and necessary equipment to manage them, most if not all heath facilities has inadequate PPE, long working hours leading to burn-out all putting their lives in danger yet loss of health workers is a double tragedy because it depletes the human resource capacity in the battle against the pandemic.

He proposed that government must put a special Isolation treatment centers for health workers in all regions of the country, provide risk allowances to all health workers irrespective of whether they serve in covid19 treatment units or not, Must increase lunch allowances all intended to motivate them to fight the pandemic.

Meanwhile general Secretary Uganda Medical Workers Union and National Organization of Trade Unions (NOTU) Wilson Owere has advised government to immediately work on the issues of Health workers if Covid19 is to be defeated in Uganda.

He has assured health workers support towards pushing government to prioritize their call.
