Police had a tough time with the Opposition Democratic Party leaders who last evening issued a statement calling on members of the public to convene at the constitutional square in large numbers to show solidarity against the move to remove age limits dubbed Togikwatako.

The action comes as the DP leaders wanted to march to the square in protest of what they called tampering with Article 102 of the Constitution to allow President Museveni to stand for another term in 2021 general elections when he is beyond 75 years of age.

Police cordoned off the DP headquarters and arrested the Party vice president Fred Mukasa Mbidde who was addressing a press conference along with other youths and whisked him to the Central Police Station, sparking off fights between DP youths and the police.

The Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said DP activists were carrying out an unlawful assembly since they did not get clearance from the IGP and KCCA.

As police was settling the DP matters, Journalists also stormed (CPS) Kampala to rescue their colleague Phiona Nansubuga a trainee with one of the local Television station who was grabbed by police for covering DP demonstration and police was forced to release her without any charge.

The CPS Division Police Commander Joseph Bakaleke refuted arresting Nansubuga saying the journalist was just rescued from a suspected man who was mistaken as an officer yet he was taking advantage of a scuffle to snatch her smart phone.
