A 21 year-old man is under custody at Mubende Central Police Station for killing a 15 year-old girl he has allegedly been defiling.
According to the police, the suspect has been identified as Godfrey Akandwanaho and the victim is Sarah Kansimire, both residents of Buganya village, Kalama parish, Butologo sub-county in Mubende district.
It is alleged that the deceased’s father relocated from Kyankwanzi in February 2023 with his family and acquired a plot of land near the Akandwanaho’s residence and later requested the suspect to rent him a room for his family, as he was planning to build his own house.
However, due to limited space, the suspect offered to house two of the girls, including the deceased, in his room but unfortunately, over the months, the suspect allegedly sexually abused the deceased.
Preliminary findings from the police suggest that the suspect discovered the deceased with two phone lines, which led him to suspect her of having another lover.
Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Region Police Spokesperson says that around midnight today, the suspect confronted the victim about engaging in intercourse, but she refused, leading to a quarrel which escalated, causing the girl to flee the house.
She adds that Akandwanaho pursued Kansimire with a machete and cut her, causing a fatal injury and currently the body of the deceased has been transported to Mubende Referral Hospital, awaiting a postmortem examination.
However, Kawala strongly encourages parents to closely monitor and restrict their children’s visits to friends and neighbors to safeguard them against potential sexual and physical abuse.
