Police in Old Kampala have arrested one man and are hunting for another over a failed robbery of 28.6 million shillings at a Chinese store in Kisenyi II Parish, in Kampala.

The suspect has been identified as Ronald Ongom while the one on the run has been named as Kaboyi, a casual laborer at Kasajja building in Kisenyi.

Kaboyi, according to police, struck a deal with Ongom to rob money which a Chinese trader, Sun Hengde, often locked inside the store in the evening hours.

Kaboyi entered the store at around 8 pm alongside Ongom but the latter was locked inside by unsuspecting Hengde.

The duo planned to varnish with the money alongside other valuables in the wee hours of the night.

But Ongom ran out of luck when he failed to locate the spare keys inside the store after he had packed 28.6 million shillings in the bag.

Police have established that Kaboyi pushed the hammer through one of the small openings so that Ongom could break the ventilators and move out with their loot.

In the process of breaking the ventilators, locals at a nearby lodge heard the sounds and quickly surrounded the store.

Patrick Onyango the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson confirmed the botched robbery incident saying investigations are ongoing.
