Makerere University students have rejected the 15% tuition increment as proposed by their guild leadership threatening for an industrial action at the start of academic year if the management doesn’t revisit its decision.

The students’ leadership led by the Guild President, Papa Were Salim, proposed the increment effective this academic year starting in August for the new entrants but excluded the continuing students.

Addressing journalists at Makerere University today, the chairperson of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Makerere Chapter, Edmon Kahiigi, said the guild leadership proposed the tuition increment without consulting students and above all there is no guarantee that the collections from the new charges will be utilized effectively.

He calls upon students and parents to join them in the struggle for better education.
