The Democratic Party (DP) faction allegedly led by the Buikwe South Member of Parliament Dr. Michael Lulume Bayiga has announced a mobilization campaign for all its members dubbed the UYD Alumni, to revive their party.

In a press conference held in Kampala on Wednesday, Dr. Lulume said their aim is to revolutionaries the party, to lead Ugandans to a peaceful and united country that most of the people are yearning for.

He says they are looking forward to bringing together all the young democrats stakeholders who include Social Democratic Party(SDP),Truth and Justice (TJ), Peoples Development Party (PDP), Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) and DP members who are not in for the Party President Norbert Mao agreement with the NRM and DP elders who are in for change.

Lulume has been at the battle lines within the country’s oldest political party especially against the current party president Norbert Mao who is also the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

Recently, Mao celebrated one year in Gulu since he signed a cooperation agreement with President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

According to Mao, signing a cooperation agreement didn’t mean that he had crossed to NRM instead agreed on certain matters.

Mao and Lulume’s political differences were once handled by the late DP strongman, Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere. But with Ssemogerere’s death, it seems nobody can mediate between Mao and Lulume
