Lugazio Diocese has launched the 2025 Uganda Marty’s day celebrations on June 3rd at the Catholic Shrine Namugongo.

The committee with 189 members from all professional disciplines is chaired by the Pastoral Coordinator Fr. Dr. Godfrey Mboowa over seen by the Vicar General Msgr. Richard Kayondo who reports direct to the Bishop

The aim of early preparations is to avoid stressing people and all well-wishers who will contribute towards the celebrations.

Although the Budget was not revealed Bishop Christopher Kakooza said all is set including the theme of the day which goes; Lord Let me see again – Mark 10:51 (Ayi Mukama Mpa Okulaba Nate – Mariko 10:51).

Each adult will contribute 10,000/=, a youth 5000/= and a child 1000/=

They have also introduced Mobile money lines MTN and Airtel *165#6 under the financial transaction, select a bank and a– account number – send your contribution.

 

This was during the celebrations to mark the 27th diocesan day today at Lugazi Cathedral led by Bishop Kakooza and animated by Nkokonjeru Deanery.

He hailed the dedicated service of the outgone diocesan executive committee that was led by Mr. Charles Kabanda and welcomed the new one Dr. Augustine Kato. The 21 member committee helps in the day today running of the diocese.

On such a diocesan day Christians from the 33 Parishes present take a match past before the Bishop  and also make contributions towards the support of the diocesan work in their initiative called Empagi and all the collections from today’s event was committed to the completion of the Kiyindi Catholic Parish church in Buyikwe district which is at the  roofing level

Lugazio Catholic Diocese was elected on 23rd February 1997, by now saint Pope John Paul II, and Bishop Mathias Ssekamanya appointed the first bishop until 4th November 2014, when Pope Francis appointed a new shepherd Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza, who was installed as Bishop of Lugazi on 3rd January 2015.

Bishop Kakooza also committed that come this diocesan year Galiraya Sub Parish located on the shores of Lake Kyoga in Kayunga district will be elevated to Parish level since they completed the priests’ house. This will bring number of Parishes to 34.

Lugazi diocese was curved from Kampala Archdiocese and starts from Kiwanga Parish at Namanve industrial park, Koome Island located near Entebbe Wakiso district upto Galiraya along the Lake shores of Lake Kyoga in Kayunga district and currently has an estimated number of Catholics one million.
