The diocesan phase of the closure of the cause of the beatification and canonization of Mother Mary Kevin Kearney the founder of the little sisters of St. Francis of Assisi Nkokonjeru and Missionary sisters of Africa closed yesterday at queen of peace cathedral Lugazi.

The process to gather her information for the sister who served for over 50 years in Uganda started in 2016 under a 15 member committee led by Rt. Rev. Bishop Christopher Kakooza, Fr. Iginesious Kibowa from Lugazi, Fr. Edward Ssekabanja from Masaka, and Sr. Margaret Kubanze and Mrs. Grace Walyaka  the secretary took on the process that has finally come to an end.

The process was witnessed by a special delegate from Rome Rev. Br. Reginald Cruz before the bishop emeritus of Lugazi Rt. Rev. Matthias Ssekamanya and it involved sealing of 15 boxes containing all the collected information about Mother Kevin and three are to be taken to Rome through the Popo Nuncio’s office in Mbuya.

At the Eucharistic ceremony held at Lugazi diocese before the occasion Bishop Ssekamanya reminded the gathering of the contribution of Mother Kevin in Uganda where she started schools, hospitals and congregation of religious sisters to spread the word or God and improve service delivery.

He challenged the little sisters of St. Francis of Assisi to remain committed to their vows and live the life of their founder mother Kevin.

Mother Kevin was born in Ireland in 1875 came to Uganda in 1902 and died from America in 1957 and her remains where brought back to Nkokonjeru where they were laid to rest.

Present at the same occasion was the Archbishop of Kampala Dr.Cyprian KizitoLwanga who hailed Mother Kevin for her exemplary work especially in the field of health which remains a challenge to the government saying unfavorable remuneration for health works costs the country with many specialists going out for greener pastures and better pay yet it would be solved.
