The Deputy Inspector General of Government George Bamugemereire has hailed the importance of establishing the State House Anti Corruption Unit that has combined efforts along with other relevant bodies to fight graft in the country.

In a joint press conference with the State House Anti Corruption Unit held at the Office of the Prime Minister on Monday, Bamugemereire revealed that there is a successful story since the unit was instituted, commending Lieutenant Colonel Edith Nakalema for thorough investigations in the cases of corruption that has helped in recovering public funds and properties.

He however said it’s sad for some people to engage in embezzlement of government funds which hurt citizens and is the reason why they involved citizens in the fight as whistle blowers who are strong partners against this problem.

In her remarks on two years tenure in the office, Nakalema mentioned five factors that have contributed to their success including, advice from the president, experienced lawyers on the team, the partnership with key stakeholders in the fight, and quick response whenever they are called among others.

On December 10, 2020, State House Anti Corruption Unit will celebrate its second anniversary since it was instituted by President Yoweri Museveni in 2018.
