Today is the 15th day of the general campaigns for all elective political positions; Presidential, Parliamentary and Local government leaders for the next 5 year political term 2021/26.

The National Unity Platform NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi who lost 5 days of his campaigns since Wednesday November 18th following his arrest in Luuka and on Friday charged for engaging in an act likely to spread the infection of Covid-19 before Iganga Chief Magistrate’s court, has today resumed campaigns starting with Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo and Fort portal.

According to NUP spokes person Joel Ssenyonyi they has still resumed their campaign trail on a sad not after police arrested more than five members of their presidential advance team in Kyegegwa last night.

Ssenyonyi says police broke into the hotel rooms where the members were and arrested them and moments later police cancelled the venue meant for the rally of Robert Kyagulanyi today blocking all roads to the venue.

He says having lost 5 days of their campaign time when their leader was in police cells at Nalufenya in Jinja when they were supposed to be in Mpigi, Gomba, Masaka, police would not again interrupt them but never the less they are firm and ready to defeat the ruling government in the 2021 general elections.

This comes after religious leaders used the three days Friday, Saturday and Sunday to condemn the brutal attack on civilians in the two day riots that rocked the city and other parts of the country following the arrest of Robert Kyagulanyi that claimed 60 lives, property and many are still nursing injuries.

The bishop of Masaka diocese Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba while leading mass for the diocesan day celebrations at Kitovu where Msgr. Gelevas Mukasa and Fr. Joseph Kyakuwadde were also recognized for their commitment to service in God’s vineyard for the last 50 years in priesthood, Bishop Jjumba said government has to account for the losses in lives and property lost during the riots and investigate the perpetrators to ensure justice.

Bishop Jjumba commended Msgr. Mukasa one of the great environmentalist the church has, has promoted agriculture that is more environmental friendly.
