The Ministry of Local government has disowned responsibility of Naguru-Nakawa land.

Appearing before the Adhoc committee (led by Dan Atwijukire) to answer queries on who is investigating on the land in the Naguru, the minister for Local government Raphael Magezi said that ever since Kampala ceased to be a district in 2014, the responsibility on the land was transferred to KCCA under the president’s office.

Magezi however said that as local government they only retained technical members on the steering committee that over sees the Land.

When asked by the committee about the status of the tenants that originally occupied the contested land, Magezi replied saying that government had pledged to compensate each Tennant 17 million shillings. The total number of Tenants in question is over 1700.

However Magezi said since the pledge, government has treated as unfunded priority amounting to 35 Billion shillings.

It should be remembered that, Deputy Speaker Anita Among directed the Adhoc committee led by Dan Atwijukire to investigate the wrangles in Naguru Nakawa Land and report back to parliament within two weeks.
