As the country joins the rest of the International Community to commemorate the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, Tripai Overseas Agency Limited has condemned human trafficking and torture acts against Ugandan domestic workers in the Middle East.

According to the United Nations (UN) office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), since 2003, around 225,000 victims of trafficking have been detected worldwide.

This year’s theme is “Human trafficking, call your government to action” and the national function for marking the day have been held at Imperial Royale hotel by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in partnership with the Uganda Coalition Against Trafficking in Persons.

While bidding farewell to over 50 ladies that are going for domestic work in Arab countries like Saudi Arabia and Oman among others, Ritah Daisy Nakyanzi the Public Relations Officer for Tripai Overseas Agency says that they have in several times canceled contracts with clients believed to be torturing workers from Uganda.

However, some of the ladies that are heading for domestic work in authorized countries asked government to keep a sharp eye on them while in the Middle East.

The Community Liason Officer at the Kampala Central Police Station, Emmanuel Kasoma Ssempijja warns ladies against using unregistered company agencies for domestic work in the Middle East saying such unknown companies are the leading human traffickers to Arabian and other countries.
