Late Sserubogo son to contest for Kayunga district by-election on independent ticket

Jamiir Kamoga, the son of the late Muhammad Ffeffeka Sserubogo, the former Kayunga District LC V Chairperson has decided to go independent after failing to secure the National Unity Platform-NUP party flag. 

On Monday evening, NUP declared Harriet Nakwede as their candidate for the Kayunga LC 5 by-elections. They explained that the party Electoral Commission had conducted a survey on the ground and concluded that Nakiwedde was the best-suited candidate to win the election.

The commission vetted four candidates including Harriet Nakwede, Jamiir Kamoga, Rajab Ssenkubuge and Fatumah Nakanwagi, a sister to the late Ffeffeka. However, Kamoga has rejected the outcomes of the selection process, saying the process used to arrive at the candidate is unclear.

He accuses the vetting committee of conniving with the party principal to declare the winner without giving reasons for their decision.

Nakanwagi, a sister to Sserubogo, who also wanted the party flag, says that Kyagulanyi was misled by what she has termed as the biased vetting management committee to declare an incompetent flag bearer. She said that she will not contest as an independent as requested by the voters but will back her nephew.

Harriet Nakwede is confident to return with victory from the by-elections. Nakwede contested in the January general elections for the position of Kayunga woman parliamentary seat under NUP and lost to Idah Erios Nantaba. Although she petitioned Mukono High Court challenging the results, the court dismissed it for alleged incompetence.
