The Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic diocese Rt. Rev. Robert Muhiirwa has finally granted the long awaited parish to Christians of Kyamatanga village in Buheesi Sub- County, Bunyangabu district.

In his letter addressed to Fr Titus Winyi, the Cathedral Administrator of Virika Catholic Parish, Bishop Muhiirwa says the granting of the new parish has been reached upon after a thorough study of the application of the same parish that was accompanied by the report from a committee responsible for the creation of new parishes.

According to the Uganda Episcopal Conference’s website, the Diocese has before been comprised of 29 Parishes divided in three deaneries namely: Virika, Kamwenge and Katoosa, meaning that Kyamatanga has now totaled to 30 parishes in Fort portal diocese.

Bishop Muhiirwa adds that the new parish of Kyamatanga will officially be opened on March 21st this year (2021) starting with the Holy Mass at 10:00am but however cautioned believers to observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while celebrating this achievement.

Bishop Muhiirwa who was appointed Bishop of Fort Portal by succeeding Rt. Rev. Paul Lokiru Kalanda on March 18th 2003 added in his letter that other details concerning the assignments and declaration of boundaries will be communicated later.

Fort Portal is one of the dioceses within the Archdiocese of Mbarara since 1999 and it covers the civic districts of Kabalore, Bundibugyo, Kamwenge, Kyenjojo, Kyegegwa, Ntoroko, Bunyangabu and Kitagwenda.
