Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in conjunction with three other companies have on Monday signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote the use and recycle of plastic wastes as means of protecting the environment against harmful waste products.

 

Studies estimate that in Uganda, an average of 1500 tones of plastic waste are generated daily with only 500 tones probably managed which indicates a collection efficiency of 30% implying that most of the waste generated is not safely recycled and goes into the environment.

 

Dorothy Kisaka, the KCCA Executive Director while officiating the signing ceremony at KCCA grounds today said that this is collaboration is going to help create more jobs through industries that recycle , individuals collecting plastic among others hence zero disposal and environment improvement.

 

Kisaka adds this is also another effort to clean up the city and better environment adding Kampala city and greater Kampala Metropolitan Area are supposed to be green.

 

She has disclosed that working together shall be able to create an ecosystem that guarantees the continue survival of nature as well as provide a market for valued added recycled plastic that can be locally consumed.

 

He calls upon Ugandans to embrace this initiative.

 

Other three companies are NICE house of plastics, Coca cola and Stanbic Bank.
