The Mayor for Kira Municipality Julius Mutebi has requested the Ministry of Health to upgrade the municipality health center III to health center IV.
Speaking at the World Health Day held at Kira Municipal grounds, Mutebi noted that a health facility serving a population of over 400,000 has no medical officer and receives limited medicine yet it is the only government health facility in the area.
According to him, they have already secured a piece of land that could be used for building a hospital for the Municipality.
However, Mutebi urges the ministry to also help in sensitizing the communities in Kira Municipality to control health problems among the public like self medication, need for testing and exercising to keep healthy.
The day has been commemorated under the theme “Multi-sectoral action for improved Health in Uganda”.
In her response, the Minister for Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng promised to consider the request once the health facility is fully inspected.
