The Azimio La Umoja camp, led by leader Raila Odinga, has had a meeting today with its elected legislators to chart its way forward after rival William Ruto was named President-elect.

Odinga, his running mate Martha Karua, and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka met with elected MPs, governors, and other legislators allied to Azimio at KICC, Nairobi.

Karua has said that their victory was deferred but it’s coming soon and already their figures show that they command the National Assembly.

Odinga previously signaled a Supreme Court battle to determine the legality of the outcome of the presidential vote after he rejected the results that gave him a 48.84% loss to William Ruto who got a 50.49%

At the same time, Dr. Ruto also met with elected Kenya Kwanza leaders at his official Karen residence where he announced that 10 newly elected independent MPs have joined his coalition.

Chief Justice Martha Koome suffered a blow yesterday after the High Court declared unlawful her decision to gag advocates and litigants from making comments on a presidential election petition while it is still being heard by the Supreme Court.

Justice Mugure Thande quashed the Supreme Court (Presidential Election Petition Amendment Rules) 2022 and declared them unconstitutional for not adhering to public participation requirements.

The rule had outlawed public comments on the merits of a presidential election petition once filed at the Supreme Court and while it is still pending determination.

It also banned speculation about the outcome of the petition.
