The Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has appealed to the government to increase funding for infrastructural development in the city.

He made the appeal during the groundbreaking for the construction of a Traffic Control Center at City Hall in Kampala, called MODERATO which will lead to signalization of 27 junctions and removal of 5 roundabouts that include Rwenzori courts, Grand imperial, Mulago round about, Mulago mortuary and Mengo Kubiri.

Japan international cooperation agency- JICA has injected Shs63billion and the project is expected to be completed in a period of one year.

Lukwago says that despite the support from Japan there is a need for the government to increase funding in infrastructure in the city to save the time lost of over 24hrs in traffic jams, something that is dangerous to their lives.

Lukwago used the same occasion to criticize the traffic police over the ongoing operation against motorcyclists or bodabodas in Kampala saying the exercise is not sustainable.

The Kampala Metropolitan traffic Police Commander  Rogers Kafeero noted that since the start of the operation on Monday, they have impounded over 1000 motorcycles over lack of driving permits, helmets and driving permits plus reflector jackets hence appealing to passengers who use bodabodas to ensure that they buy helmet for themselves for their safety.
