The speaker of Parliament Anita Among has met with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) labourers who stormed parliament complaining about payment arrears and terminated contracts among other grievances.

Dressed in apple green reflectors barring KCCA, the casual workers under the presence of the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago voiced their concerns to the Speaker about contract terminations, non-payment of NSSF contributions for over five months and delayed salary payments among others issues.

Speaker Among on Wednesday asked KCCA leadership to attend to the concerns of casual labourers who recently demonstrated demanding pending payment for work done over the last six months.

She alluded to Article 40(1)(b) of the Constitution which provided for equal payment and for equal work without discrimination.

Along with Lukwago, and Kampala Central Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko in front of the main gate of Parliament, Among informed the aggrieved KCCA Casual labourers that she is to follow up until their concerns are solved.

Speaker Among said that on Tuesday next week she will meet all the stakeholders including officials from the Ministry of Finance, KCCA and MPs to iron out the unpaid salaries for the KCCA casual workers.

She also assured them that those with expired contracts will be renewed and no one will be fired.

Meanwhile, the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago assured the workers that the contract between KCCA and Seven Hills has been terminated with immediate effect and no one will be forced to join them as it had been directed.
