The Medical Superintendent of Kawolo General Hospital, Dr. Joshua Kiberu decries the Government’s poor facilitation of the hospital.

Meeting a delegation of MPs led by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga, Dr. Kiberu reported that for the past 4 months, health workers at the hospital have been stopping at writing prescriptions for the patients since they have not been receiving medical supplies from the Government.

The hospital also reports that patients, especially expectant and new mothers have refused to use toilets due to some cultural myths and many use small buckets that they keep under their hospital beds.

Meanwhile, health workers at Kawolo General Hospital have threatened to lay down tools from Monday over unpaid salaries for a period of 3 months.

Led by Felix Kigoma, a Clinical Officer, the health workers told Mpuuga that because of unpaid wages, they have been forced to sell off their belongings to clear their rent arrears and other household obligations.

The Buikwe District Chairperson, Jimmy Kanaabi blamed the problem on recentralization of the roles previously performed by Local Governments.
