The main suspect in businessman Henry Katanga’s death, his widow Molly Katanga through her legal team has filed more submissions in support of her bail application.

Molly in April this year was denied bail by the same court due to the gravity of her offence after the trial judge Isaac Muwata ruled that she is already committed for trial and there is no likelihood of delay.

He added that although the court found Molly’s sureties to be substantial, the circumstances do not warrant them to be considered hence denying her bail and advised them to prepare for the trial fixed for July this year.

On Monday, Molly’s lawyers have filled and presented more submissions in support for bail of their client where they contend that the applicant is suffering from grave illness which has kept worsening ever since her committal to prison as indicated in her periodic medical reports annexed in the affidavit.

In their bail application, they have revealed that the Applicant may not see or witness her trial which is two months away if she continues to be locked up in prison without receiving adequate treatment which may not be available in prison as confirmed by the Prisons Health Services.

They also noted that High Court can at any stage of proceedings including during her trial fixed for 2nd July 2024 grant her bail adding that fixing of trial does not in any way stop this court from granting her bail.

After their presentation, the Director of Public Prosecutions-DPP was given a period of one week to file their response and court set 21st May 2024 to deliver its ruling on the matter.

Prosecution states that Henry Katanga was shot dead by his wife Molly on November 2nd 2023, at their home in Mbuya, Nakawa Division in Kampala.
