Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Jameson Karemani has set strict conditions on 4 police officers who are accused of torturing and causing harm to Kamwenge mayor Godfrey Byamukama while securing their bail application on Tuesday May 30th.

Four police officer; ASP Patrick Muramira, ASP Fred Tumuhairwe; Habib Roma (driver) and Ben Odeke were last week charged for torturing and causing grievous harm to Byamukama.

The two ASPs were ordered to pay a sum of UGX.2 million each in cash whereas the other junior officers were required to part with 1million Shs each.

The magistrate also ordered that each of the 4 accused police officers stays away from his place of work until the case is disposed of so as to avoid interference with witnesses and other investigations.

The state prosecutor Jonathan Muwaganya did not have any objection to the bail application but asked for measures that would ensure that there is no interference by the accused into the ongoing investigations.

Kamwenge Mayor Byamukama was last month arrested in the city centre on suspicion of participating in the murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi in March before being detained at Nalufenya police station where he was tortured from.

Meanwhile the Democratic Party (DP) president Norbert Mao has attributed the alleged torture of detainees in police detention centers like Nalufenya to the training received by officers from North Korea.

Mao says that North Korean security agencies are known for being experts in torturing detainees which is currently exhibited in the way the Uganda police treats suspects especially those linked to the killing of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
