The Bishop of Fort Portal diocese Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhiirwa has asked journalist to publish filtered news now that almost the whole world is here to mark the Uganda Martyrs day at Namugongo.

Drawing from the teaching about this year’s 51st world communications days while at Vilka Cathedral where also the foot pilgrims to Namugongo set off, Bishop Muhiirwa said many times the media provides information which does not build the world but rather destroys relationships, based on wars, pornography, human suffering, sex and entertainment among others.

Bishop Muhiirwa challenged the media to produce filtered news which brings hope and inspiration.

The minister for Information, communication and technology Frank Tumwebaze who was the chief guest asked journalist to use media as a voice to promote peace in the world other than promoting violence.

Tumwebaze warned the public against misusing technology especially the social media platform and launched Agaali Amaka video play recorded on a CD which was written by Bishop Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki challenging families to stop alcoholism and drug abuse some of which are the main causes of family breakdown.

This year’s communications day celebrations were held under the theme: “Fear not, for I am with you; communicating hope and trust in our time.” At least 16 million shillings was realized both in cash and pledges part of the 25 million shillings required to purchase a public address system and other gadgets needed to support the communications office.
