Kampala Resident City Commissioners led by Faridah Mayanja Mpiima have threatened to close schools that are operating without Minimum education Standards and those risking the students’ lives.

Addressing the media at her office in Kampala this afternoon, Mpiima says that the inspection campaign is aimed at preventing fires that currently reportedly killing children in schools.

This comes after 11 students of St. Bernards Mannya SSS in Rakai district reported dead and over 50 injured following the fire that gutted the Senior two and three dormitory at night while sleeping.

The Nakawa Division Deputy RCC Herbert Anderson Burora emphasizes that the campaign will be commenced in Kampala and later extended to other districts across the country starting with this very holiday.

He adds that they are also to inspect sanitation and hygiene in all schools with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) education department and police.
