Kampala Metropolitan policing Area continues to register the highest number of road accidents according to the weekly traffic police report.

According to the weekly traffic report released on Monday, a total of 787 road accidents occurred in the last two weeks from 6th to 18th March 2023, of which 115 of them were fatal and 672 accidents were both serious and minor.

The report indicates that of the 778 victims involved in these accidents, 132 died while 646 sustained injuries.

Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic Police Spokesperson while releasing this report at Naguru said that a total of 211 road accidents which are both fatal and serious were registered from Kampala Metropolitan policing Area.

Nampiima further explains about a fatal accident registered at Lubaale in Ntungamo district involving 9 vehicles including a bus registration number UBF 669G of Jaguar bus company.

She says that the bus driver who was moving from Kabale to Ntungamo lost control near Doctor’s Referral Hospital and moved in the opposite lane where it rammed into others cars which were coming from the different direction killing one person instantly while leaving other people nursing wounds.

Meanwhile, Nampiima has attributed the current major cause of road crashes to driving vehicles in dangerous mechanical condition during the rainy season that fail to stop and end up ramming into other vehicles.
