Kabale district authorities have started a move to expand the boundaries of Kabale municipality as they plan for getting a city status.

The move will see the municipality annex parishes in the neighboring Kitumba Sub County in Ndorwa West County, Kyanamira Sub County in Ndorwa East County in Kabale district and Bubaare Sub County in Rubanda East County in Rubanda District.

The decision to expand Kabale municipality that was created in 1986 is aimed at increasing the population to 500,000 people in accordance with the Local Government Act to qualify for a city status.

According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics 2012 report, Kabale Municipality occupies a Surface Area of 33 square kilometers and has a total Population projection of 44,800 people.

The district LCV Chairman Patrick Besigye Keihwa, has confirmed to have been selected by other leaders spearhead the move of expanding Kabale municipality who will later defend it before parliament.
